The Field of Miracles is the city of Pisa's focal point and contains a trio of symbolic sights. After a brief introduction to the ancient origin of Pisa and its development as a Maritime Republic in XI century, we will discover the symbols of its glorious past: -The Cathedral (Duomo), a triumph of the Pisan Romanesque style -The Baptistery, enobled by Nicola Pisano's pulpit and with fabulous acoustics; -The Graveyard, with its beautiful Medieval frescoes by Bufalmacco and ancient Roman sarcophagi decorated with mithological scenes; -The most famous Bell Tower, which has been leaning since XII century (Unesco World Heritage Site) Seeing the Leaning Tower's lopsided beauty may satisfy, but to do it justice you can climb the 293 steps at a five-degree angle to the top for views over the Apennines and the Tyrrhenian Sea. If you wish to climb it, I can do the reservation and pay for the ticket in advance ( only 30 persons every 20 minuts are allowed to climb the tower). It costs 18,00 euro per person.
8:30 -Pick you up at the port of Livorno Transfer to the ''magic and mysterious'' Volterra, one of the finest and lesser known hilltop towns tucked away in the heart of Tuscany. Volterra has its roots in three thousand years of history and the fact it is possible to find evidence and traces from every historical period gives the city a unique aspect. Delighting walk through the narrow streets of this Etruscan Gem: Starting from Piazza Martiri della Liberta, we will walk down to ‘Porta all’Arco’, rare example of Etruscan military architecture, gateway belonging to the 4th century BC city walls, then up to Piazza San Giovanni with the antique Cathedral and Baptistery; a few steps away: Piazza dei Priori, symbol of the civic and political Then we will discover the remains of a Roman theatre and Roman baths. Within the end of the tour we will visit an alabaster workshop. 12:30 Lunch in a typical Tuscan Trattoria Tranfer to the Medieval hill top town of San Gimignano, the 'town of the Fair Towers' Charming walk through the city centre with its nice leather, wine and pottery shops, not to mention a great ice-cream shop where we can stop for a while! 4:00 pm Departure from San Gimignano Tranfer to the port of Livorno
