NYC Seasonal Markets Tour

New York City 02:30hs 8 max. 0 reviews

Markets are a place where many producers of goods come together to sell off their surplus. Most places in the world still use markets to a very large extent, but unfortunately, due to commercialism, they are becoming less popular in the USA. However, in recent years food markets have been popping up all around New York City, offering some of the freshest and most natural food imaginable. Believe it or not, NYC has not always been the bustling concrete jungle that it is now; in the 1800's everything above Houston Street was once farmland. Markets have long been in the history of NYC. On our market tour, you will be taken around the city, learning about how agriculture, dairy, vegetable and fruit farming have affected New York culture and history. You will be taken through districts such as Union Square, the West Village, the Meatpacking District and Chelsea, some of NYC's most picturesque neighborhoods. You will experience organic farmers' markets, where producers sell fresh products, such as vegetables and homemade cheeses, cured meats and honey. The tour also wonders through a few of NYC's "indoor" markets, places full of character and great variety of food. The markets are all seasonal; see pumpkins of all shapes and sizes during fall, hot apple cider during Christmas and delicious homemade ice cream during summer. Staying true to the spirit of a market place, you will be given time to wonder through each market by yourself, browsing through and buying whatever appeals to you. As the price of this tour does not include food, we suggest bringing $5-15 in cash, depending on how much food and products you expect to purchase. We would like to suggest that the Seasonal Food Market Tour is most suitable for people unfamiliar with food markets in Manhattan.
